Check Gauges Light

Today as I was turning into a parking spot (wheel turned all the way to the left), the entire car shut down and the check gauges light turned on.  I put it in park, turned the car off, restarted it, and it's been fine since.  Anyone have an explanation for this?  (very cold morning, the engine still hadn't warmed up in case that helps)
