timing preignition problems

i put a 500 cfm holley 2 barrel on my 1980 buick regal with a 3.8 v6. all the smog equipment was removed. the stock intake and distributor are still there. I cnat get the engine to stop having preignition knock when it hits 2000 rpm no matter what i do with the timing. how do i fix this? do I need to buy a different distributor or maybe an adjustable advance set up?
