either you clogged the fuel filter or fuel injectors with crud from the bottom of the tank, or you burned out the fuel pump running the fuel tank to empty.

I have an 86 N/A 944 and it starts spuddering at 1600 rpm and wont go past 1600. And just seems like it stalls out untill it goes to a lower rpm then will kick back to 1600.
