I HAVE A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS. I NOTICED THAT THE AUTOMOBILE DOWN-SHIFTING IS PROMINENT, ESPECIALLY WHEN TRAVELING LOWER THAN 40MPH. YOU CAN ACTUALLY FEEL THE DOWN-SHIFTING. AT TIMES I CAN FEEL AT LEAST 3 GEAR DOWN-SHIFT. MY QUESTIONS IS THAT THE PRESENT TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE/TRANSMISSION DOWN-SHIFTING DECREASES MILEAGE PER GALLON (THE ECONOMY OF FUEL). PRIMARILY DUE TO WHEN THE CAR DOWNSHIFTS, THE RPM OF THE ENGINE RUNS HIGHER THEN A SMOOTH, LOWER RATIO DOWN SHIFT DESIGN. THE CORRECTION MAY SAVE THE MILEAGE AS MUST AS 3 MILES PER GALLON.
