what is tha average retail for 1985 Volvo 240 ( in fair condition)?

The car that I am looking at to buy for my daughter has some rust at bottom of rear doors, front driver seat  is torn badly and front dash is craked in several places.  The owner wants $1,000 or best offer.

I've seen old 240's in need of work go fro $600 to $1200. The dashboard cracking is normal on these cars at this age. If it runs good and has decent tires and brakes I'd offer $800 and see what the owner says.
