95 Volkswagen cabrio radio issues

I have had the radio in safe mode before
and I don't believe that is what is happening
now. The radio shows no light, and when
turned on the screen has no display. Is this
a simple fix, or should I head to a repair
shop?

not sure this will work but hold your power button for 15 seconds. before that try flashing a flash light on the screen and see if the background is visible. if it is this would inidcate your radio back light is dead which means you need a new radio or a rebuild.
