2002 VW beetle: My car is making a clicking noise. with my feet on the brake when I change gear, you can hear the noise. But when I'm driving it the noise stops. A mechanic told me it was transmission problems. Does that sound right?

I would assume that you are shifting from park to reverse or drive if you have you foot on the brake when shifting. It could be a transmission problem or a shifter problem. Sounds more like a shifter problem if it is only when you are putting it in gear.
