General question

what major difference is there between the 2005 and 2006 GTO? I am interested in both years..I want the 6 liter engine..prices for the 2005 are a bit lower, but mileage is higher...I just wanted to know if there were major issues with the 2005 vs the 2006.

Thanks.

2006 GTOs have nicer tailights. I had an 05 and now have an 06 they are pretty much the same other then the 06 also having its own thing for clutch fluid in the engine bay, makes it easier to change and if you drive aggressively you will have to change it often. Good thing you want the 6.0 cause the 5.7s are garbage, and if you race one on the highway its a joke

06 mine pretty fast if you call a 7.0 fast because i put  in a ls3 and stroked bored and camed it and that thing is big now twin t88 turbos intercooled custom  lt1 intake step dad installed the trany so i dont know about that but its lowered 2 and a half inches with flow tech headers and true dual exhaust and its load as f*** i have a launch shock swapped  out 70 judge rear axle with custom gears amazing body kit with american thorq 22'' thrust wheels wrapped in low profile falken or falkin tires and detach able wheelie bar for that 1564 hp on tha ground and that wicked kool bumper stick that's says when you drive this car every thing is obsolete and ipulled up to a stop light and a guy wanted to race me and he was in a camed cobra mustang and i swamped him o and i tuned it and it gets 29 mpg wow hu i custom ed tuned it to have a race street and economic mode and i have a switch to get such great mileage and have 2,800 miles on it its a weekend driver  and fun dragster i run the quarter mile in 6.989 second car going 270 mph and burn half a tank it can also run top fuel and i run 5.487 going 298 and i burn all of is with 2034 hp

the 5.7L is far from garbage.  a full slp exhaust system and chip with a CAI will keep up with 6.0 all day.  is it as good as the 6.0?  no.  but its NOT garbage

That may be a GM LS engine but I don't think its a LS3. The coil packs look like ones off the LS1. Further more, that is not a 06 GTO.

Alright maybe its not garbage but its a drastic step down. My friend has a 2004 6 speed with a ported and polished Throttle body, ported and polished intake manifold, pacesetter headers(long tubes), and SLP lm1 exhaust and a tune. When i got my 6.0 we racerd 20mph to 80ish, she jumped and i still had her by about a car in the end. Then the highway run from 40 to 140 was just plain out embarrasing. Also a srt4 neon with just a boost controller can beat them. its really not worth the 10 or 12 grand in my opionion when for only a few more thousand you can get a 6.0

I'd be willing to put money that you won more on driving skill than performance from the cars.

She knows how to drive, she had her goat for many years. And it still remains that a boost controlled SRT4 can take down 5.7 GTOs. Ironically my friend with the srt4 i speak of is now looking to get a 5.7 GTO himself. Only has like 11gs to spend and he doesnt want a salvage title 6.0 haha

Haha well I'd be willing to bet some srt 4 drivers could take out 6.0 gtos also.

Well no shit, but not with JUST a boost controller. My friend andy HAD a GT3076R built SRT4 and he walked all over MODDED 6.0s. But he invested a ton of money into it and IMO it wasnt worth it but it was a sharp looker and im not a fan of SRT4s looks by anymeans

Point I was making is that 5.7 gtos should beat srt4s but they do lose
occasionaly. 6.0 gtos should win bu lose here and there also.

And srt4s don't need heavy modding to get into the 12s. Pretty easy to
make them very fast.
