The whole thing came apart. Top, side button that you push, and small spring from inside ended up on the floor.

No. For your own safety, get it towed.

Is it tje button that u have to push in to get the car to shift into gear

My son was able to put it back together for me. The 2 screws on the shifter had loosened and fallen out.

Same thing just happened to me,.*+^%#. Now what? Call a dealer?
