Question type: Maintenance & Repair

95 ford econoline van will not take gas... when i use the pump it clicks right off. when i use a can it fills to the top of the neck... is there anything at the gas tank in in the filler tube.  i have pulled the filler tube to the rubber section and it is clear. did not check the air tube though just the gas.  is there a valve on the air tube that maybe is not opening to vent out. or is there perhaps a security device to prevent siphoning on the filler side.  when i tried to fill it with a can a heard a very distinct glug glug glug sound underneath as gas took turns with air entering the tank.

There should be a roll-over valve in the tank at the filler. Basically, it's a check-ball in a cage. There was a concern (many moons ago) about the filler hose being too long and retaining gasoline in it. Sounds to me that you may have something down inside. Be sure to check that other tube though.

Got kids? Sounds like a ball or something at tank opening this van should, should being the key work a screen built into the tank just barely visible w filler removed check for leaves, gravel, or gosh knows what. Hope that helps. Make sure vent hose is connected to filler tube and on tank. (Heater hose size) also look for kinks or it pinched closed.
