What are the best mods to do to a 2000 Cummins Diesel for best performance, economy, and longevity?

get a chip, best thing you can ever do for a diesel... you can slap on a huge turbo, exhaust, intake... etc and it might add up to the power you can make with a chip.. although other mods AND a chip is different of course

What brand of chip is the best bang for the buck and allows the most power and fuel economy?

i would go with a bully god myself, they have chips that you can switch on the fly, ranges from stock to 150+ hp or so... they also give an increase in fuel mileage, and apparently help quite a bit for mileage if you are towing. if you plan on using the chip and running the truck hard at the same time it would be wise to get a egt ( exhaust gas temprature) guage, it will help you keep an eye on things so the cylinders do not run too hot.

Oliver, sounds like you need to visit www.dieselram.com and ask some questions. Look me up there aka Wyatt Earp. Briefly: 1. gauges first - do nothing else first 2. FASS lift pump 3. air intake 4. exhaust 5. smarty box ecm programmer 6. stage 3 injectors for good power and less smoke than a stage 5 (150 HP) stick 7. Intake and exhaust manifolds 8. Turbo or Twin Turbo 9. Clutch or Transmission work 10. Beyond this the sky is the limit

tranny work should be much earlier on this list... a chip is boarderline for the stock tranny...

Now I guess that differs with a stick vs. a slush box. A stock clutch will hold about 125 HP where a auto will only do 75 to 100 HP.

throw in a tranni and ive seen turbos added and chips and water coolers and things like that

if your going for good horse power, and when you go to do the tranny if its auto get a aftermarket torque converter...if stick just a heavier clutch kit

these trucks have a weak injector pump, add a foss fuel pump, they need the fuel flow to be no less then 7 psi, don't listen to dodge about this. Cummins says 7 psi, dodge says 1 psi is fine. I had a tranny built for mine, and added a mod chip. I love my truck...

No kidding. My '02 (VP44 Pump) never goes below 14 psi with my FASS 150.150. My trouble is EGT's as my stock turbo doesn't turn enough air to cool me down right. I see 33 pounds of boost at 1250 F (pre turbo) and then my clutch starts to slip.
