2000 dodge5.9l no start
i have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 5.9l that wont start. it turns over fine i hear the fuel pump kicking in. tested the fuel pressure and it is running between 45 and 50 psi. pulled the #1 spark plug and checked for spark which was good, but noticed there was no smell of fuel on the spark plug. what is the next step i need some direction?
any codes, what do the spark plugs look like are they fouled, new, or otherwise. You really can't ever give too much info.
While cranking engine over have someone spray short bursts of starting fluid into intake. If you get ignition then you have fuel supply issues. If not you have spark issues.
spray a little fuel under breather or get a rubber hammer tap the bottom of fuel tank have someone to start the engine i had one before my problem was a fuse would turn over but would not start
If you want a easy solution you can have someone sit in the driver seat and you can take a plug wire off put a screwdriver in the plug and while they crank you can hold it near the engine to see if it sparks if it does it's a fuel issue if not it's a spark issue, but you really ought to see if there are codes those will also go a long way to help you see what the issue is because even if you find out if there is a fuel problem you still need to know what the problem is.
you'll probly want to check the ignition module it's located on the passenger front side of the engine you can buy a spark tester at harbor freight that will let you know if you are getting spark from the module.
