where is fuel filter located

want to check fuel filter on my friend's 1990 Reatta. I would like to know if the fuel filter is in the fuel tank or under the car.

if it is like my 1989 rivi, it is at the firewall, driver's side, on the bottom of the car. it can be accessed by the left front wheel plastic well flap. it just peels open showing filter canister by the steering shaft (approximately).
