Remove grille. Yep, the whole thing. Then you can see the cable and if it is not broken off the latch, give it a pull and it will pop open, but if it's broken off of the latch you can still get ahold of it with vice grips and pull where it was attached. I hope you don't ask how to install a new cable, at least for me, somebody else would have to field that I have no clue
