Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Looking at purchasing a 1989 F-150.  When I tookk it for a spin, I noticed oil dripping from between Transmission Case and Motor.  My brother and I believe it may be a Rear Seal Leak.  The guy is asking 1K.  If we are right about the leak,is this a worthwhile investment or can I fix the problem for a few hundred?  Other than that, it is a really clean truck, no rust, good shape for going on 20 years old.  Thanks in advance.

Yep, sounds like the rear main seal. I recently had the job done on my Jeep Cherokee. Cost @ $300. However, there are different ways this can be done. Some vehicles, like the Jeep, can have it done by just dropping the oil pan. Others (like this truck) need to have the transmission removed. It's a decent investment as for a few hundred you could have this fixed. Have the oil pan resealed at the same time.

have to agree with above and can be done for under 400.00 or get good ol boy and some beer and wait a week under 100.00 that is an easy fix.. if you have the tools and the time..
