Can gas leak out the filler cap area when the tank is full. I leak gas from some place when tank is full

Asked by mbarnes Jan 12, 2007 at 08:39 PM about the 1968 Chevrolet Corvette

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I fill the tank to 80% or more the car smells of gas and gas will leak out when I accellerate. I was told this is a common problem with C-3 Corvettes. I have no issuses if I keep it at 1/2 full.

Hello, Unfortunately, there is no one clear cause for these leaks. Because the tank fares better at half full, I would surmise that there is a crack in the upper part of the tank. Here is some information on vented caps that may help: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=590561 Best of luck! CarGrrl
