how do you open the hood of the car once you engage hood release button

hi Cosmo, Once you pull the hood release button you should see the hood of the car pop up a little. Go around to the front and there should be a second "lever" or handle that you will need to pull or turn to release the hood so that you can fully open it. It is usually located in the center of the hood or sometimes in the grill.
