"You will sometimes get that error because the key sensor gets stuck. Inside the ignition switch there is a sliding nylon key sensor that gets stuck and fools your car. It thinks that there is a key in the ignition with a non-compatible resistor pellet so it throws that message. The best way to tell if this is your problem is if the bell rings with the door open without a key in the ignition. If this happens, insert the small end of a plastic wire tie into the ignition switch and "fiddle around" until the sensor releases. There is a TSB out to update your ignition switch."
