Since you have the VIN, you may be able to pull a CARFAX report on it and try to locate it that way.  If the vehicle has been junked or written off, you should be able to find that out.  If it's still "active" you should at minimum be able to locate the state where it resides and try to track it down by doing a title search within that state.
