how many model where made in1966
Chevrolet Chevelle 1966 and the chevrolet malibu 1966 are the same?
Pretty close...
The Chevelle was a "series" in 1966.
In that Series" were several Models; 300, 300 Deluxe, Malibu and SuperSport...
Chevelle 300
Chevelle 300 deluxe
Chevelle Malibu
Chevelle SuperSport
Chevelle El Camino (300 Deluxe-based trim)
Chevelle El Camino Custom (Malibu-based trim)
300 was the base model, rubber floor covers (not carpet), clothe seat covers, little shiny bright trim, etc... 300 deluxe a little nicer.
Malibu's had carpet on the floors, more "fancy" trim (inside and out) and vinyl covered seats.
SuperSports used the malibu level trim.
Malibus could have all the same interior equippment as the SS models (buckets, gaugaes, tachs), and Supersports base interior was a bench seat, 3-speed manual floor shifter or column shifted automatic... Guages, buckets/tachs were all optional...
There is a saying that fits for 1966... "All Malibus are Chevelles, but NOT all Chevelles are Malibus"
No, in 1966, the Malibu was a separate MODEL, NOT a Trim package... A unique model, with a unique VIN Malibus ALL start with 135 or 136 (135 for 6-cylinder cars and 136 for V8 powered cars). You could NOT get a non-Malibu with a VIN starting 135 or 136 (except the El Camino Custom)... A large part of the model differences was "trim", but some body styles (2-door HARDTOP, convertible and 4-door HARDTOP were unique to the Malibu line (and the SuperSport model, of course).
In 1969, the "SuperSport" became on option, but the Malibu was still a separate Model... I think it was after 1972, that the Malibu became a trim option on the Chevelles (but I don't follow those years closely)
And, of course, this doesn't not include "Canadian" Chevelles...
