New to Audi, questions on 98 A8 AWD 4.2L before purchase.

My son has found a 98 A8 AWD 4.2 with 150000 miles on it, and it has just been serviced.  Is this a car for a young man with limited funds?  It seems to be a pretty nice car from what I have read, but also plagued by their own dealers!  What does he need to know before buying this car for $7700, and what should he look out for?
