temperature gauge

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1997 Pontiac transport Montana and the temperature gauge when the
ignition is on pegs out all the way past 260 it never runs hot it is just the gauge
pigs out and the low coolant temperature light constantly stays on even though
the radiator in the engine is full of coolant , any help would be greatly
appreciated. Also it is the extended edition with 4 doors

Sounds like either the gauge or the temp sensor is defective and needs to be replaced.

thanks Taver91.. I have already replaced the temperature sensor so I'm not sure what else to do .it sounds like that is possibly grounded or has a short in it . For some reason the low coolant light is on also on even though it has plenty of coolant in the system... I'm not sure what else to do other than take the cluster out and check it.. is there a way to ohm out that temperature gauge and see if it is bad or not
