I have a 2000 Montana it is over heating how do you bleed the air out of the motor?

If its the 3.4l there is a little bleed valve on top of the steel tube that is located on the water pump housing. Have you had work done to it recently? Only reason air would get into the system is if lots of coolant was lost either by working on it or a hole. When does it overheat?
