Sunfire Pontiac 2001 engine problem

Engine had die, the car had the fuel pump replace and then the engine started to stall (like the gear was off)  while driving, on low speed the car rush forward like stall or like kick. no sure what is wrong, the engine light is on, Gear is switching forward

My husband took to mechanic that does automatic and reset the computer in car to it's original setting. It was reset to default when he had the fuel pump replaced.
