transmission hitting hard

about 4 days ago i took my car to the mechanic and he said my egr valve is 100% clogged so i replaced it and the serci engine light went out and it shifted into gear real smooth couldnt feel it then the check engine light came back on and it was hitting really hard going into reverse or drive

Have to pull the codes, perhaps something else is out of whack here. It may not necessarily be transmission-related but the trans. may be getting incorrect input from the Engine Control Module and trying to kick in when idle is too high.
