Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1996 olds ciera, 4 cyclinder.. has less than 53,000 miles on it.. I first bought it 2 years ago which had roughly 39,950 miles and only paid 2,000 for it ( including taxes, title, transfer )... and to what I have been told, there's only been one owner (making me the 2nd owner) since my family runs a dealership, I assumed nothing was wrong with the car... well driving it back to college it would vibrate once I got to speeds of 65 or faster.. I figured it was something with the roaters... took it into the shop.. needed new roaters and tires... wasn't happy, but it was free considering it was under warrenty... however.. by the time it hit winter.. somehow my heater core blew up.. another 900 bucks... then spring... water pump blew... 200 bucks.. new fan belt.. 200 bucks.. and just recently had inspection and emissions done.. needed new brake cyclinder and rear tires.. 700 bucks.. in total.. spent over 2 grand fixing this car.. now heres the question.. when I go to start the car, it wont start.. could be the battery but I checked it and it's at 13.2 volts.. car only needs 12 to start up.. so then I tried it again this time pressing the gas.. turns on with no problems.. I am thinking that I would need to get a new gas pump.. and I know for a fact it's gonna run me more than 500 easily.. should I just replace it or get a new car?.. its a nice car.. but its running me broke having to keep fixing it every month..

Hmmm.. my car vibrates when I go about 70mph or higher.. It's a 96 as well, but it's the 6 cylinder wagon. I wonder if it is a common problem. I thought it was because of a wheel weight that came off.

thats what I thought too, but I checked it and it was fine.. I checked everything, even the alignment (only off by -1 degree).. but still vibrates regardless.. don't think it's the roaters cuz they're only a year old.. brakes are fine too.. plus my brake light keeps turning on and off.. had it checked.. they said its fine.. if it's turning on and off.. something is wrong lol.. I know the wiring is messed up too in the car... so.. I'm thinkin maybe its the drivetrain..

I've also got a 1996 Ciera Sl wagon, I bought mine a year ago, it had 129k miles on it, has the V6 3.1 standard, and no problems other than the tires, the first week driving it down a lonely highway, i hit 103 without know it. really comfortably, i don't know if it's a common problem, or that I just lucked out. I paid 700 for the car, and have only needed to replace the battery and tires. I have a check engine light if i put regular gasoline, but it goes away when i put mid grade in it. so there's that.

Well one of the biggest, possibly dumbest things I did with this car is drove it out on the country roads... my ex lives out in the deep country so the tires took one hell of a beating.. had to replace them 2 times cause of wear. But even before I bought the car, it did that, so I replaced all the rotors and tires... was fine for a few months, but started to act up again barely hitting 65 mph.. the whole dash would just shake like nuts. It got to the point where my ex just let me use her truck instead... another huge thing I found, well not that major anyways, is that my speed odometer is off by 5 mph... so if i'm going 75, im really going 70.. doesn't bother me a whole lot but its starting to.

I've got an Olds Ciera CS as well. It's a 4-door sedan with 103,000 miles on it. It shakes at 65 to 70. It's also about 4 or 5 mph off (too slow as well) and I'm starting to have all kinds of electrical shut downs. Door locks don't work, radio and it's lights gone, mirror switch gone, interior floor lights out, horn gone....ALL went out yesterday on a long trip. However, dang thing gets 32 MPG!!! So, I wanna keep it. But, when no fuses are bad...what causes all the electrical problems? Also, am concerned about the shimmy and shakes.
