I guess you could say there are 3 trim lines (or 2? 3 was last year), but there are/have been 10 generations.

yes it was 10, unless you count the Galant VR-4 which is the predecessor of the first gen Evolution (aka Lancer GSR), then it's 11. Though not the official evo, the VR-4 shares a lot of the same features of the first gen, less a lot of the aesthetics.

When you break down to trim levels, then it basically depends on where you live

well considering the news model is the Evolution 10 I would say there has been 10 modles of evolution the first starting in 1992.
