Why is my 1990 GMC 5.0 motor backfiring it's a throttlebody

It runs fine for a while and then when
we're out on the highway it starts
cutting out and acting like it's going
to die or get no gas and it backfires

Could be fuel pump going bad,or may all so be igintion control module going bad.

I'm pretty sure it is the fuel line filter right under the driver side door. Please let me know if you try this and if that was a fix or not. Thank you.
