1998 ford taurus shuts off while driving in hot weather

Asked by Jennifer Apr 25, 2011 at 10:03 PM about the 1998 Ford Taurus

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

At first the car wouldn't restart for about 30 mins after driving in hot weather. Changed out plugs, wires, MAF, cam shaft position sensor, coolant sensor.  Now car is shutting off while driving in hot weather and will take about an hour or more until it will restart.  Was told by the shop that it needed a feul injector service.  Any ideas.

Ignition modgle sounds bad,the hoter temps is overheating it.doubt it is fuel related, most think when it gets hot weather, they think of vapor lock which was common on pre fuel injection cars, this is a thing of the past but some still think it still happends.

Mine is doing the same thing. I have had work done to it but nothing has helped. Have you found the answer for your car?

I have the same problem. The engines stalled on a hot day while I was driving. After a wait of 20 minutes, I was able to restart and drove back home. I have the car towed to a garage I trusted and they identified the fuel relay being the problem. It turned out that the relay was really hot and was damaged to the point that it became unstable especially when it was hot. After the relay was changed, the problem was solved.
