1987 subaru GL sedan different tire usage?

I have a subaru 1987 GL sedan, I can select when to put it in 4wd. it has 185/70r13
tires on it, when i bought the car, it had two 175/70r13 tires in the trunk. Can I
use those in combination with the 185/70s? or is there no reason why those were
in the trunk? what can and cannot be done?

It's not recomended but as long as they are the same hieght and you just have them in the front or back not 2 on the left or right.
