A 200 ws6 has 305 hp and 350 ft lbs of torque. Your mustang doesn't have 280 horspower and 305 tq if its a stock SOHC i promise. Get a set of headers, 4.10:1 rear gear, throw the cats away...2.5 inch pipes to flowmaster mufflers (or other) and computer tune it, pulley set, and if you can spend some more dough get a set of cams for it. Not too big though, as you would need dyno tuning(get this done if you can anyway) and fuel system mods to support the large cam.
Just doing a catback exhaust, pulley set and CAI isnt gonna cut it.

Throwing out the cats would be illegal though...The only way you have 280 hp is if you've done mods already, a stock gt has 260 and a stock trans am has 320.  So even in the case that you have 280 hp, a gain through mods of getting a 60hp increase is going to cost you about $2000 i'd say, given that you buy smart and do all the work yourself.  Not worth it for one race if you ask me.

ok man   step 1      intake...  cold airs good   get the throttle body swapped too...    if you got the cash for the cam go for it ... best mod i ever did.. lots more torque and i got my cam for nothing... (buddy totaled his on his first run with it so we pulled it and dropped it in mine hehe... 200 bux haha)   ur gonna want to look at bigger injectors  42lb will be enough for anything ur gonna do for a while...    ur gonna need new fuel pumps   GT40 pumps are great if u can get them...   i have a superchips tuner... works GREAT  clears obd2 codes holds a bunch of tunes... its perfect...  simple to use and cheep to install...   big gains with it too...  get a pump premium performance tune...  or a race gas performance tune if u can get it ...   haha or a race tune...    there all gonna cost u money though...   the 4.10 gears will really throw u back in the seat but i find there too agressive... and for the 'race' your talking about ur gonna run outa top end and hees gonna pull around you...  i suggest 3.10 gears or 3.73 gears...   easier to live with too...    get a set of headers and a exhaust setup   if you can get rid of the cats then do it but being legal has something to say for it too...  if you want to go really radical then procharge her...  but u might want to beef up the internals... and that takes a lot of money too...   but basically intake, fuel system with cam, chip exhaust...   but if the guys really got it comming to him then add engine internals and a procharge...   u gotta realize that hees packing one hella machine with a big engine in it...   its sliprier too...   oh and get a set of tires...  i run BFG g-force sport 245/50 ZR 16s so there not too big but they run about 1200 a set...   if u get into twisties then ur gonna have to do suspension mods too...

As a supercharged mustang owner, you will really never be ahead of a ws6 without a power adder like turbo, supercharger or spray.

They can make more power n/a than us supercharged..trust me, that LS1 is a bad engine.

ive conceded to this fact now too...   get heads, cams, a procharger, a tune, 3.73 or 3.53 gears, intake system, and tires...   damn ls1...
