Initial opinion.
It seems I did everything backwards as in went hunting for what I wanted then after getting the CrossFox I read the reviews.
Living in the Dominican Republic the roads have pot holes and or some of the mountain may have come down onto them so an ordinary car wasn't practicle. I didn't though want something too big due to narrow streets in Puerto Plata City and for ease of parking.
So when I went shopping for a car I took a tape measure to measure underneath the clearance of the ground and the cars lowest point.
Even the Jeppettas didn't have the clearance that this VW has. Front bumpers were in general 8" clearance but the CrossFox has 12. The size tyers promised good semi-off road type driving as per the conditions I have to drive on as stated.
My first 45 klm drive home from where I had bought it impressed me as regards how smoothly it took the humps and hollows of the road. I remarked to a friend it was almost like independent suspension.
Having previously had a VW Touareg I was expecting a much larger difference in the smoothness of the ride and was thrilled to discover there was not much. I have to get used to the manual gears yet as so far I find I need lower gears to get some 'poke' from it, more so than I expected.
I found quickly after shopping that the back door was a pain in the ass for loading and unloading due to having to first open the spare wheel holder before being able to open the boot. Think I will use the back seat and floor in future.
I'm looking forward to taking friends over some particular bad bumps in it to see if the VW will manage them better than their car which has 14" tyres.
