PT Cruiser - no air - hard to start - engine stops when you stop - suggestions?

Purchased 2001 w/o timing belt - instaled new belt - 105 mi on car. Was told air worked?!?! We topped of "freon" and air still doesn't work.

Had the air unit tested and it was no good. I had it replaced along with the pully for the timing belt. It runs great and the air blows cool.
