Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My kids car won't start.  It has been doing this thing where it will crank but not start, and they would jump it and it would be fine, but it started happening more and more often.  Then today it died at an intersection and would start again at all.  I have no idea, no money, and no one to call where they are in CA who I would even know rather to trust about what they would say is wrong with it.  Any ideas???

You should not unplug your battery while the car is running that will damage your voltage control. Buy a multitester 15 to 30 usd for a cheap one and measure the voltage it should be at least 13.45 with electrical off and 12.95 volt with all on. Try this also start the car with the volt meter connected and if voltage goes down 10 volts while cranking replace the battery but be sure it is charged before trying this.
