what is the max trailer weight an 83 GMC 1500 sierra 4x4 diesel truck can tow

I am from New Zealand and it is hard to find anything accurate on these older American trucks, hope someone can help

i had an 84 gmc 2wd 1500 and i was able to tow 5500 lbs with ease but the diesels can haul more but it all depends on the gear ratio and the weight rating of your springs, mine was a half ton

look on the tag in the glove box or on the drivers door post it will say what the max gross weigt you can tow. it won't say tow weight just the maximun you can weigh. I would not go over 6000lbs trailer weight or you could have the tail wagging the dog. Make shure you have enough tounge weight about 350 lbs at the trailer hich ball
