strange noises: 1990 suburban four wheel drive: What sounds like air fluttering through front end and then a bang when we slow down to stop?

Asked by cadiwampus Jun 25, 2010 at 01:42 PM about the 1990 Chevrolet Suburban

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We're driving down the road and get this sound like wind fluttering through something loose...kinda like baseball cards in the spoke of a bicycle.  When we slow down to between 30 to 40 miles an hour...Wham.

Check for bad U joints on the axle by the wheels, also check the hub locks to see if they are sticking.
