Dear mfzbfan-- Just because the parking brake doesn't appear to be engaged while looking at it from the interior of your 1990 Chevrolet, it doesn't mean that the cables underneath aren't still keeping that emergency brake engaged. The warning light may be performing a valuable service. This is not a rare occurence. I would let someone knowledgeable look at it as soon as possible before a minor problem becomes major. Good luck from Bovan.
