Overview of 2012 Toyota Sienna XLE 7-Passenger By Eric Tallberg
As the upper mid-level trim of the 2012 Toyota minivan lineup, the Sienna XLE 7- Passenger shows the posh side of this admirable people-hauler. Three rows of seating, combined with 150 cubic feet of total cargo capacity, show its roominess, while the standard variable-valve-timed (VVT) 266-hp V6 powerplant combines with a 6-speed shiftable automatic transmission for 245 lb-ft of torque, and that means some 3,500 pounds of towing capacity with the proper equipment, not to mention full-time all-wheel drive (AWD) that’s managed by a center limited-slip differential. Look for 17 mpg city/23 highway from this supremely capable drivetrain.
Standard appearance features and creature comforts include 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, a roof rack, rear power fiftgate and a power sunroof, as well as leather-upholstered front captain’s chairs and second-row lounge chairs with folding foot rests, as well as heated power-adjustable front seats and full power accessories, including heated outside mirrors. Standard convenience amenities include cruise control, telescoping tilt-wheel steering, a universal remote garage door opener and a rear-view camera, while tri-zone climate control and simulated wood interior accents and a leather steering wheel are among the comfort features delivered with this plush mini. Finally, an MP3-capable single-CD player is bolstered by satellite radio, a USB port and Bluetooth hands-free communications.
Speaking of Bluetooth, BLU Logic audio-interfaced hands-free phone technology is one of several options available with the 2012 Sienna XLE 7-Passenger. A navigation suite with 6.5-inch display and Entune mobile apps for smartphones is also available, as are towing equipment, remote engine start, lower body molding and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system. Available packages, meantime, include a few offering carpeted floor mats, cargo management systems, roof side rails and door-sill protectors, with the XLE Premium Package boasting a 605-watt JBL premium audio system with 6-CD changer and 10 speakers, combined with the navigation suite and rear-seat DVD entertainment.
Toyota’s Star Safety System endows the 2012 Sienna XLE 7-Passenger with 4-wheel antilock brakes (ABS), as well as the ubiquitous traction and stability control. Further safety equipment includes front side-mounted airbags, 3-zone head airbags and a driver’s-side knee airbag, not to mention daytime running lights, front fog/driving lights and a remote antitheft alarm. Finally, Toyota’s Safety Connect emergency communications is optional.
This overview covers the XLE 7-Passenger trim only.
