The Toyota Prius Two receives a minor styling update for 2012, as well as new standard features. Outside, styling updates include standard LED taillights and running lights, plus new 15-inch wheels, as well as a redesigned front fascia, bumper and headlights. Other standard exterior features include heated power mirrors and a rear spoiler with a centered LED light. Inside, the Prius Two gains a new display audio system with a 6.1-inch touchscreen as a standard feature. The new touchscreen display is part of a 6-speaker AM/FM audio system, which includes a CD player, USB port, input jack, Bluetooth and audio streaming. Drivers can also use the display to view vehicle information and customize vehicle settings. Other standard features for the Prius Two include automatic climate control, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel, remote keyless entry, a Smart Key system, a 60/40-split rear seat, and power windows and door locks. Cloth upholstery comes standard, with 6-way manual adjustment for the driver's seat and 4-way adjustment for the passenger.
Power for the Prius Two comes from a fuel-efficient Hybrid Synergy Drive powerplant, which includes a 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder gas engine and an electric motor. The gas engine produces 98 hp, which increases to 134 hp when combined with the electric motor. Combined torque tops out at 153 lb-ft. The powerplant links to an electronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) and posts fuel economy numbers of 51/48 mpg. Seven airbags, including a driver's knee airbag, also come standard, along with Toyota's Star Safety System, which includes enhanced vehicle stability control, traction control and antilock brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution. Hill Start Assist, another standard feature, aids the driver when starting from a full stop on a hill.
