The 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE comes equipped with a number of features not available on the Hybrid LE, including a 6.1-inch touchscreen, which gives drivers access to a 6-speaker audio system, vehicle information, a phone book and music streaming. In addition, the fabric-trimmed front seats feature 8-way power adjustment for the driver and 4-way power adjustment for the front passenger. A leather-trimmed tilt/telescopic sport steering wheel includes integrated Bluetooth and voice-command controls, while Optitron instrumentation on the dash includes readouts for the hybrid system power meter as well as fuel economy gauges, a multi-information display and an Eco driving indicator. Metallic-tech-grain interior trim and chrome interior door handles give the Hybrid XLE a sporty feel. Other standard features include a Smart Key System, cruise control, power door locks and windows, and a fold-down rear seat with a pass-through. Options available on the XLE include a navigation system and Toyota's Entune system, which supports mobile apps and provides access to live weather and traffic reports, music streaming services and sports and stock information.
A new 2.5-liter powerplant, which includes a small high-torque electric motor, drives the Hybrid XLE. Combined, the system produces 200 hp and manages very good fuel economy numbers of 43 mpg city/39 highway. Regenerative braking is also new for 2012, helping to improve the Hybrid's efficiency. Thanks to a new EV Drive, drivers can now operate the Camry Hybrid LE on the electric motor alone for up to 1.6 miles at speeds below 25 mph, further conserving fuel. In addition, the nickel-metal-hybrid battery, which is located below the trunk, is more compact, resulting in an additional 2.1 cubic feet of cargo space when compared to the previous generation. Standard exterior features include projector-beam halogen headlights, integrated foglights, folding heated color-keyed side mirrors and 17-inch steel wheels. Standard safety equipment includes 10 airbags as well as enhanced stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist and Smart Stop Technology, all part of Toyota's Star Safety System.
