The Subaru Impreza WRX STi Base sedan receives only a few new features for 2012, including an updated wheel design and a new optional touchscreen navigation system. The 4-door, 5-passenger Base sedan delivers a rocket-like ride, thanks to its turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, which pumps out 305 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque. The engine links to a 6-speed close-ratio manual shifter with Incline Start assist and posts fuel economy numbers of 17 mpg city/23 highway. Unique safety features include a 3-mode Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system, which incorporates electronic stability control and a performance-oriented traction control system. In addition, the STi gets Super Sport antilock brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution. Six airbags also come standard.

Outside, the WRX STi Base displays a wide-body design with projecting fenders and rear quarter panels. Other exterior elements include an STI-design front bumper, a jutting front lip spoiler and aerodynamic side moldings. A black grille up front enhances the vehicle's sporty look, while an integrated hood scoop and a high wing on the rear decklid make a statement about the vehicle's impressive performance capabilities. New 18-inch, 5-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels feature a high-luster finish. Inside, the Base comes standard with a number of sport-oriented features, including high-backed black sport seats with leather side bolsters and Alcantara inserts, aluminum-alloy pedals and a 3-spoke leather-wrapped STI steering wheel.
