2012 Scion xB Base Trim Overview

The Scion xB Base urban utility vehicle receives a few new standard high-tech features for 2012, including Bluetooth and HD radio, part of the 160-watt Pioneer audio system, which also features a subwoofer, a USB port and an electroluminescent screen. In addition, Scion offers the xB with a newly available 200-watt Pioneer Premium audio system with a 5.8-inch LCD touchscreen display, iTunes tagging and Pandora Internet radio. Standard interior features for the xB Base include sport front bucket seats, remote keyless entry and a tilt/telescopic steering wheel with audio and cruise controls. The rear seat splits and folds down to expand cargo space. Other interior storage spaces include a hidden fixed tray beneath the rear seats, a driver's convenience tray and storage pockets in the front door. Cloth upholstery, air conditioning, a multi-information display and power windows and door locks are among the xB Base's other standard features.

Outside, the 5-door, 5-passenger xB Base displays a unique, cube-on-wheels exterior design, highlighted by a rectangular lower front grille, wrap-around projector-beam headlights, pronounced fenders, high sidelines and a squared-off rear end with a chrome-tipped exhaust. Optional features include foglights, a sport muffler, mudguards and a rear wind deflector for a sportier exterior appearance. Power for the xB Base comes from a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine, which produces 158 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. The engine links to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic with a manual shift mode. Fuel economy numbers check in at 22/28 mpg with either transmission. Standard safety features include electronic stability control, traction control and 4-wheel antilock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist. A full range of airbags and a first-aid kit are also included, along with Scion's Smart Stop Technology, which automatically reduces engine power when the brake and accelerator pedals are pressed at the same time in emergency situations. The Scion xB Base rides on 16-inch wheels, although owners can opt for available 17- or 19-inch alloy wheels.
