Overview of 2012 Nissan Versa 1.6 S By R. Feeman

New for 2012, the Nissan Versa 1.6 S Sedan receives an updated exterior design, a new fuel-efficient powerplant, a larger trunk and more rear-seat legroom than any other vehicle in the subcompact class. Outside, the 4-door, 5-passenger Versa 1.6 S Sedan displays a more fluid shape and receives Nissan's new signature V-shaped black grille, as well as jewel-like halogen headlights and manually operated side mirrors. Inside, the 1.6 S has an open, airy look and feel, with such standard features as air conditioning, a 6-way manually adjustable driver's seat, a tilt steering column and a 2-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system with an auxiliary input jack. Other standard features for the 1.6 S include a trip computer, front door pockets with bottle holders and cloth upholstery.

For power, the front-wheel-drive Versa 1.6 S Sedan receives a new 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine, which incorporates such cutting-edge technologies as dual injectors for each cylinder and a twin Continuously Variable Timing Control (CVTC) system. The engine produces 109 hp and 107 lb-ft of torque, and links to 5-speed manual transmission, which generally gets good marks from owners and reviewers. The engine posts fuel economy number of 27/36 mpg. Owners can also opt for an Xtronic CVT (continuously variable transmission), which boosts fuel economy numbers slightly to 30/38. Six airbags come standard, along with Vehicle Dynamic Control, traction control and a tire pressure monitoring system. The 2012 Versa 1.6 S Sedan rides on 15-inch steel wheels with all-season tires.

This overview covers the 1.6 S trim only.
