Overview of 2012 Mazda MAZDA6 i Sport By Eric Tallberg
Standing pat from 2011, Mazda’s nifty, thrifty 2012 Mazda6 i Sport 5-passenger family-oriented midsize sedan boasts an efficient inline 4-cylinder (I4) powerplant that mates with either the standard 6-speed manual transmission or an available 5-speed shiftable automatic. In either case, look for 170 hp and 167 lb-ft of torque from this entry-level trim, with mileage estimated at 21 mpg city/30 highway from the stick-shift and 22/31 from the automatic.
Standard appearance features include 16-inch steel wheels, with full power accessories, cloth upholstery, simulated alloy cabin accents and a height-adjustable driver’s seat adorning the cabin. Cruise control also comes standard in the base i Sport, as do air conditioning and an MP3-capable single-CD player boasting 6 speakers. All this is complemented, meantime, by over 16.5 cubic feet of trunk space.
Options for the 2012 edition remain a rear spoiler, remote engine start, satellite radio and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror with an integrated remote garage door opener.
Finally, standard safety features aboard the Mazda6 i Sport again include 4-wheel antilock brakes (ABS), traction and stability control, front and rear head airbags, front side-mounted airbags and front head restraint whiplash protection. Meanwhile, this entry-level trim offers optional front fog/driving lights as well.
This overview covers the i Sport trim only.
