Overview of 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara By R. Feeman
The Wrangler Unlimited Sahara receives a few new interior updates for 2012, as well as a new powerplant and a new automatic transmission. A new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine produces 285 hp (compared to the previous engine's 202 hp), and boosts torque by 10 percent to 260 lb-ft. Fuel economy numbers for the new V6 check in at 17/21 mpg, improvements over the previous engine but still at the low end for similar vehicles of its size. The Unlimited Sahara comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, although owners can upgrade to a new 5-speed automatic transmission, which replaces the previous 4-speed unit. Jeep's also includes its shift-on-the-fly Command-Trac 4WD system, which splits torque 50/50 between the front and rear axles. Antilock brakes, traction control, stability control, Hill Start Assist and 18-inch cast-aluminum wheels with Bridgestone Dueler on/off-road tires are all standard.
Inside, the 4-door, 5-passenger Unlimited Sahara receives a redesigned steering wheel and armrests, as well as a new locking glove box for 2012. It also comes equipped with a number of features that set it apart from the entry-level Unlimited Sport trim, including air conditioning, power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Black cloth upholstery, a height-adjustable driver's seat, and a rear Fold-and-Tumble seat are also included in the standard equipment list. In addition, the Unlimited Sahara gets a 368-watt, 7-speaker Infinity unit with a subwoofer and SiriusXM satellite radio, as well as Jeep's Uconnect connectivity system. Owners can add an upgraded Uconnect system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, DVD player, HD radio, GPS navigation and 40GB hard drive. Leather upholstery and heated front seats are also available for the Unlimited Sahara. Safety features include dual front advanced airbags, with side-impact airbags available as an option. Exterior features for the Unlimited Sahara include a Sunrider Soft Top, automatic halogen headlights, foglights, power heated mirrors, tubular side steps and front and rear tow hooks.
This overview covers the Unlimited Sahara trim only.
