Overview of 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sahara By R. Feeman
The Jeep Wrangler Sahara receives a new V6 engine for 2012 and comes equipped with a number of features not found on the entry-level Wrangler Sport trim. The Sahara's new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine improves in both performance and fuel economy over the Wrangler's previous powerplant. The new engine delivers 285 hp (compared to the previous engine's 202 hp) and boosts torque by 10 percent to 260 lb-ft. Fuel economy numbers for the new V6 check in at 17/21 mpg, which represent an improvement over the previous engine but still come in at the low end of the scale for competitive vehicles. A 6-speed manual transmission comes standard, although owners can upgrade to a new 5-speed automatic transmission, which replaces the previous 4-speed unit. Jeep also outfits the Sahara with a shift-on-the-fly Command-Trac 4WD system, which splits torque 50/50 between front and rear axles. Antilock brakes, traction control, stability control, Hill Start Assist and 18-inch cast-aluminum wheels with Bridgestone Dueler on/off-road tires all come standard on the Wrangler Sahara.
The 2-door, 4-passenger Sahara comes standard with a Sunrider Soft Top, although owners can add an optional hardtop. Other standard exterior features include automatic halogen headlights, foglights, power heated mirrors, tubular side steps and front and rear tow hooks. Inside, the Sahara's cabin receives a few new features for 2012, including a redesigned steering wheel and armrests, as well as a locking glove box. Standard features that set the Sahara apart from the entry-level Sport trim include air conditioning, power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Black cloth seats, a height-adjustable driver's seat and a Fold-and-Tumble rear seat also come standard. In addition, the Sahara gets a 368-watt, 7-speaker Infinity unit with a subwoofer and SiriusXM satellite radio, as well as Jeep's Uconnect connectivity sytem. Owners can add an upgraded Uconnect system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, DVD player, HD radio, GPS navigation and a 40GB hard drive. Leather upholstery and heated front seats are also available for the Sahara. Front airbags are among the standard safety features.
This overview covers the Sahara trim only.
