2012 Hyundai Santa Fe Review
ProsOnly drove it for a day in SF, but the gas mileage seemed pretty good despite all of the hill-climbing. Handled pretty well, too. Gotta love that Hyundai warranty! ConsInterior plastics leave something to be desired-- not really many bells and whistles. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not overly impressive.

A Utilitarian, Solid Suv — Drove this car for a day throughout the hills of the redwood forest just over the Golden Gate Bridge. Needless to say, the hairpin turns really put the handling to the test. I was very pleased with the ride overall. Not sure which trim I drove, but the interior features were rather sparse. Very comfortable and roomy. If I ever am in the market for an SUV, I will surely give one of these a spin. |

I have the 2.4L AWD automatic transmission model and there is simply no power going uphill or accelerating. This makes passing a little dangerous - the engine almost redlines to get up to passing speed and going uphill - don't use the cruise control as it gets the engine screaming. I don't feel safe sometimes because of this car being underpowered. It's just too big a vehicle to have such a small engine.

Sad That The One Bad Thing Outweighs All The Good. Update! — In general I love the (2012) car, but the fact that it is seriously underpowered is making me trade it in. There simply is no power!! I have the 2.4L AWD automatic transmission model and there is simply no power going uphill or accelerating. This makes passing a little dangerous - the engine almost redlines to get up to passing speed and going uphill - don't use the cruise control as it gets the engine screaming. I don't feel safe sometimes because of this car being underpowered. It's just too big a vehicle to have such a small engine. UPDATE!!! - Last week I traded the 2012 Santa Fe GLS AWD 2.4L in for a brand new 2013 Santa Fe GLS AWD 3.3 L V6, and I absolutely LOVE the new 2013 vehicle. I thought the only difference I would notice would be the engine power (which thankfully, I do), but this is a completely different vehicle, and I am in love with it! Of course I've lost thousands of dollars by buying two new cars within one year, but I just couldn't stand the sluggishness of the 2012 Santa Fe. I'm very, very happy with the 2013 Santa Fe and have just resigned myself to a car payment for the next five years. I must say, though, that I did get a very good trade in on the 2012 Santa Fe - $19000. Primary Use: Commuting to work |

ProsLots of power, good for towing. Firm ride but comfortable. Good visibility. ConsLift gate lower than I am used to and creased my forehead a couple of times. Short on drivers legroom and rear passenger not much better with front seats in aft position. Steering wheel controls poor compared to my 07 Sonata. I must look at the button I am pushing.

Great Value — I replaced an 02 Caravan with the Santa Fe and miss the space I had. This vehicle gets much better mileage considering the power available. It is fun to drive and great value. Have 2 yr extended warranty was added and based on my 07 Sonata a very good investment. Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.) |

ProsWhat is not positive about the 2012 Santa Fe. I bought the base model and it had everything minus the sun/moon roof that I wanted. I love my new wheels and can't say enough good about it. I took it on a 4 hours trip to visit family and got 32 MPG. Awesome. Handles nicely and takes mountains and hills as well as my old V-6 vehicle. ConsNone at this juncture

Awesome — There is nothing I dislike about this vehicle and that is saying quite a bit. I got the base model and am quite satisfied. If you buy this vehicle I am confident you will be as satisfied as I am. For the price you can't go wrong. Primary Use: Family transportation |
