Overview of 2012 Honda Civic Si By R. Feeman
The sport-oriented Honda Civic Si receives a new powerplant for 2012. The 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine, which was pulled from the Acura TSX sedan, delivers 201 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. Peak power now comes at 7,000 rpm, as opposed to 7,800 rpm in the previous engine, which helps improve driveability, especially around town. The Si also gets a new 6-speed manual transmission, which helps to improve fuel economy. The engine posts fuel economy numbers of 22/31 mpg, up slightly from the previous year's numbers of 21/29 mpg. A limited-slip differential and beefed-up stabilizer bars also come standard on the Si.
Inside, standard features for the Si sedan include a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio, cruise and Bluetooth controls, plus a power moonroof, keyless entry, air conditioning, power windows and a door locks, and a 7-speaker, 360-watt audio system with an MP3/CD player and speed-sensitive volume. Six airbags, including rear side-curtain, front-side and dual-stage front airbags, also come standard. Outside, standard features include fog lights, folding power mirrors and auto-off headlights. Safety features include 6 standard airbags, plus vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist. The front-wheel-drive Civic Si rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with Michelin all-season tires.
This overview covers the Si trim only.
