Overview of 2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas By R. Feeman
Among the many Civic trims, the 2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas remains unique, since the alternative-fuel vehicle doesn't run on regular gasoline. Instead, the Civic Natural Gas, previously known as the GX, is the only factory-built car powered by compressed natural gas. Previously available in only four states (California, Utah, New York and Oklahoma), the Civic Natural Gas is now available at select dealers in 35 states. The Civic Natural Gas uses a tweaked version of Honda's 1.8-liter engine, which produces 110 hp and 106 lb-ft of torque. It links to a 5-speed automatic transmission and posts fuel economy numbers of 27/38 mpg. Owners can refuel the vehicle at specially equipped gas stations across the country or by using a home-refueling system. Because of its use of alternative fuel, the front-wheel-drive Civic Natural Gas can use HOV (carpool) lanes in California and other states.
Standard features for the Civic Natural Gas include air conditioning, Bluetooth, steering-wheel-mounted controls, cruise control, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel and power windows and door locks. In addition, the Civic Natural Gas receives Honda's new intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID), which occupies a spot in the center stack and handles audio, Bluetooth and general vehicle information. The Civic Natural Gas also comes equipped with remote keyless entry and a 4-speaker, 160-watt audio system with an MP3/CD player, an input jack and speed-sensitive sound. Owners can add satellite radio as an option. Power folding mirrors are among the exterior features. Standard safety equipment includes 6 airbags, as well as vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist. The 2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas rides on 15-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires.
This overview covers the Natural Gas trim only.
