Power for the Civic Hybrid with Leather and Navigation comes from a new 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder gas engine and a 23-hp electric motor. Together, the gas engine and electric motor generate 110 hp and 127 lb-ft of torque. While horsepower remains the same as the previous-generation powerplant, torque has increased by 4 lb-ft. In addition, the new powerplant achieves peak performance at 500 fewer rpm, providing better performance at lower speeds. A Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), regenerative braking and a new lithium-ion battery system, replacing the previous nickel-metal hydride system, also come standard on the front-wheel-drive Civic Hybrid, which posts fuel economy numbers of 44/44 mpg. Standard safety features include 6 airbags, as well as vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist.
